Coastal Walks

These are some of my favourite coastal walks within a few hours from Sydney. They include “rock hopping” sections along the coast with no trail, which usually requires the tide to be low.

General advice when rock hopping:

North of Sydney

👣 Yacaaba Headland

>> Three fairly hard walks, two involving rock hopping (2 & 3 hours) and one up to the summit (2 hours).

👣 Tomaree National Park

>> Moderate (2 hours) or hard (4-5 hours) depending on whether the rock hopping section is included.

👣 Fingal Island

>> When the tide is low enough to access the island via Fingal Spit, there are easy walks to the lighthouse or an ocean pool (1.5 hours each) and some very challenging walks along the rocks around the coast (up to 5 hours).

South of Sydney

👣 Kittys to Whiting Beach, Jervis Bay

>> From one beach to another with fairly easy rock hopping, after a hilly 1.5 walk down to the water (4-5 hours plus an optional half hour to a hidden beach). The hard part is walking back up all the hills at the end.
